What Parts Of A Shark’s Anatomy Are Considered Useful To Humans?

While humans considered sharks to be cold blooded killers stalking humans, reality is quite different. In fact, while we consider human fatalities that resulted from shark attacks, the real victims here are in fact, sharks.

You see, while there are about 63 shark attack worldwide, every year, 100s of millions of sharks are killed during that same period of time. In fact, contrary to humans who are mostly victims of confusion, humans are actually stalking and killing sharks on purpose.

You see, there are several ways that people use the shark’s anatomy to benefit the well-being of humans. As an example, osteoarthritis research Omega 3 shark liver oil which is seen as a good source of that supplement is also used to treat arthritis related conditions and so is shark cartilage.

Shark cartilage is also used to make cartilage pills which some believe are able to cure cancer although scientists are skeptical.

Shark meat is also considered a delicacy which is mainly used Asian recipes, especially in shark fin soup. Unfortunately, many sharks are butchered by fishermen practicing finning and releasing them into the wild, guaranteeing them a slow, painfully cruel death sentence.

It is always sad to see curious and gentle giants such as the basking shark being butchered in certain parts of the world where no laws are protecting them. You see, because of their size, they provide 1 ton of meat, 400 L of oil and a large vitamin-rich liver which represents 20% of that shark specie’s total weight.

In some cases, shark liver oil will also be used by fishermen to keep seabirds, dolphins and sharks far away from their net to prevent damages and loss of fish.

There is also the fact that the carcasses of dead sharks are also used to create some shark repellent. It is then commercialized and chemically imitated to diminish the costs while keeping its efficiency.

As you can see, they are helping a lot more than they hurt us. Why not see these poor animals as deserving of our respect in their own territory. After all, would we be as friendly if confronted by intruders in your own house?
