As a cat owner for many years, I understand the need for our feline companion’s need to climb, scratch, explore and exercise. I remember when I had 2 felines in the early 90’s (1 year apart in age) and was struggling to keep them from shredding my couch. The only cat furniture we had at the time was a small cat scratching post made from carpet which they enjoyed until it became quickly shredded. I wish there would have been more options back then for cat towers, cat condos and other cat furniture. I actually built my own out of 2 x 4 lumber and shelving material and my cats loved it!
Felines also have an instinctual need to climb up to different heights, establish their territories and relieve boredom (especially if yours is strictly an indoor cat). Cat towers can provide your kitty with a place to express their instinctual behavior as well as keeping them in good physical and emotional shape. A fat, bored cat is not a healthy one, and I love my pets to be happy. As any indoor cat owner knows, when the feline is young they need a place to release their energy and when they get older they tend to slow down so a cat tower is the perfect platform for older cats to exercise. If you have had your cat condo or tower for a while your cat will be used to climbing it as part of their routine and it will keep them in better shape!
It is a well known fact that indoor pets usually live a much longer and healthier life than an outdoor cat but they may face health risks which don’t affect most of the outdoor types which is lethargy. If your cat isn’t given an opportunity to exercise, explore and hunt they run the risk of excessive weight gains, boredom and depression. The modern cat tower can easily encourage exercise and activity in your cat. There are so many innovative and unique designs available all the way from multiple levels to break away cat toys which encourage your feline to exhibit prey like behavior such as jumping and pouncing. If cat towers are taller the height will ensure that your cat will exert plenty of energy as they move up and down.
Cat condos have chambers and blind spots which can give your cat a hunting type of experience by placing their favorite toy or perhaps a treat that they truly enjoy out of sight. It so important to spend time socializing with your cat because they are really part of your immediate family and if neglected may exhibit destructive behavior. Cat towers can provide the perfect platform to engage your pet with quality time, strengthening your animal to human bonds and providing hours of entertainment for the entire family!
